PHARMACOLOGY

SYNOPSIS

MNR College of pharmacy started Masters of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) with pharmacology specialization in 2011. Since then the department has grown by leaps and bounds in all areas. Pharmacology is the science of drug action on biological systems. It embraces knowledge of the sources, chemical properties, biological effects and therapeutic uses of drugs. Integrating a depth of knowledge in many related scientific disciplines, pharmacologists offer a unique perspective to solving drug, hormone and chemical-related problems which impinge on human health.

Research interests in the Department include a few major areas such as, screening of antidiabetic, antioxidants, antiobesity, antihistamines, and neurological diseases, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and finally In-situ absorption studies. Pharmacologists are also involved in molecular modeling of drugs, and the use of drugs as tools to dissect aspects of cell function.

Research

The Department of Pharmacology has top-notch facilities for research. Research in cancer, metabolic disorders, inflammatory diseases, chemoprevention, wound healing and tissue repair, neuro-pharmacology, diabetes, and psycho-pharmacology is being carried out in the department.

Faculty, research scholars and postgraduate students are actively involved in research projects. A number of projects have received funding from AICTE, DBT, and DST. The department has developed tie-up with several industries to undertake work on their drugs and formulations. This is a win-win situation for the department as well as the company concerned.

This also has paved the way for young M. Pharm degree holders to get a footing in research along with some financial assistance. Many of these candidates later get the opportunity to get into full-scale research leading to PhD. The Department of Pharmacology has thus helped many a candidate to work for the doctoral degree.

PHARMACY PRACTICE

The aim of the Department of Pharmacy Practice is to provide clinical education that uses rational drug therapy using evidence-based approaches to optimize the practice of pharmacy, providing quality patient health care and related services. The professional curriculum includes general, scientific, and patient cantered content that prepares Doctor of Pharmacy graduates to deliver effective and cost-efficient pharmaceutical care. The Department of Pharmacy Practice supports the College of Pharmacy's vision by Providing education to students to acquire Knowledge in the pharmaceutical, pharmacokinetic, social/economic management, and related sciences to enable healthcare professional to provide better patient care. The graduate academic program is directed toward the education and maturation of pharmacists in principles and techniques of research dealing with problems in the clinical, administrative, and educational aspects of pharmacy Which encourage students to develop Proper experience in handling the situations through appropriate coursework and supervised experience.
